Still Working 9 to 5 (2022)

9 to 5 (1980) is discussed on the fortieth anniversary of its release. Producers Bruce Gilbert and Jane Fonda, the primary creative forces behind the movie, and its four principal actors, Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Dolly Parton, and Dabney Coleman, discuss the making of the movie. With the subject of the movie being specifically women working in office jobs and more broadly women's rights in light of it, they, others associated to spin-off productions including Nine to Five (1982), and women's rights activists discuss the reception to the movie and the effect of the movie on women's rights both in the office workplace and in general in the US then, and discuss the status of women's rights, again both in the office workplace setting and in general in the US, forty years later. —Huggo
