Chapter One WHO IS THE CLUTCHING HAND? - Dr. Paul Gironda (Robert Frazier) claims that he has found a formula for making synthetic gold. He is to show his discovery to the Board of Directors of the International Research Foundation, who have hired him to make all the necessary laboratory tests. Alone in his lab just before the meeting takes place, he is attacked and when aide, attracted by his screams, arrives. Gironda has disappeared. Walter Jamesion (Rex Lease), a newspaper reporter and the fiance of Dr. Gironda's daughter, Verna (Marion Shilling) immediately calls for the eminent detective, Criag Kennedy (Jack Mulhall), on the case.
